Fawn Color Champion!

Emanuel’s Prince Roberto won the Fawn Color Championship at the 2010 Carolina Alpaca Celebration out of a very large class of fawn males. He was shorn & competed with full fleece males. He was judged under Amanda VandenBosch and some of her comments included: “Wonderful regrowth, luster and that desired phenotype in a Suri male Alpaca”.

New Addition to the Alpaca Family!

October 9, 2009 this little female alpaca came into the world around 9:15 AM, a dewy morning. She weighed 19lbs. and was up running around in no time! Mom is a very attentive mother with plenty of milk. Today, she already weighs 36lbs!

We are thinking of names for this beautiful little girl & so far we have come up with Megan’s Accoyo Dew Drop. We welcome your opinions and ideas for names too, so don’t be shy, let us know! We will keep you updated on Dew Drop’s progress and look for more pictures!

Alpaca Open House Follow Up

It was a dreary, soggy day for our 3rd annual Alpaca Farm Open House here at Suz Silky Suri Alpaca Farm this past Saturday, September 26th. We had some visitors who were brave enough to venture out in spite of the weather and we are so thankful they did! Since the attendance was lower than our previous years, Jack and I were able to give more individual attention to those who had particular questions about “alpaca life” here on the farm.

A special thanks goes to those family members who came to help, Suz mother, Betty, Suz sister, Molly, her husband Scott and Suz nephews Hayden and Gavin. We so enjoyed having them here to help and support us! Also, we had Amy Reed, a fiber expert who did spinning of raw alpaca fiber into yarn throughout the day. She was very informative for those who wanted to know what you do with all the Alpaca fiber! She will be back next year!

Now it is back to life on the alpaca farm and preparing for fall and our upcoming alpaca birth in mid-October. Check back for that update!

Upcoming Farm Open House

We will be hosting our 3rd Annual Farm Open House on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 10 AM – 5 PM!

FREE to the public! Alpaca fiber spinning demonstrations as well as alpaca yarn, fleece and retail goods will be available for purchase.

Come see the alpacas up close and learn about these beautiful creatures!
